Get Claude Pro if…
You write, edit, analyse long documents or code, and you want output that doesn't read like a machine wrote it. Paying annually makes it the cheaper of the two.

Max API credits (added October 2026) can't be used for interactive Claude Code. Fable models need paid usage credits on Pro and standard Team seats. API access is billed separately per million tokens, and Enterprise adds usage-based charges on top of the seat price.
The Pro usage multipliers (about 5x, 10x and 25x Plus) come from OpenAI staff posts and DevDay coverage rather than the pricing page. Plus and Pro are billed monthly only; mobile app-store prices can differ, and API usage is billed separately.

For writing, long documents and agentic coding, many users prefer Claude. For images, voice and breadth of features, ChatGPT Plus covers more. Both have free plans, so test both on your real work first.
Which is cheaper, Claude Pro or ChatGPT Plus?
Both are $20 a month. Claude Pro drops to $17 a month if you pay $200 for a year; ChatGPT Plus has no annual option.
Can I use both?
Yes, and plenty of people do: drafting in one and checking in the other. If you can only pay for one, choose by your main task: Claude for writing and code, ChatGPT for an all-in-one assistant.
