Free is genuinely useful for occasional questions and drafting, but it uses lighter models, has tight limits and shows ads in the US. Plus ($20/mo) adds the flagship models, deep research, real Codex usage and no ads. If you only need higher limits, the $8 Go plan sits in between.

The fine print
The Pro usage multipliers (about 5x, 10x and 25x Plus) come from OpenAI staff posts and DevDay coverage rather than the pricing page. Plus and Pro are billed monthly only; mobile app-store prices can differ, and API usage is billed separately.

Is ChatGPT Plus worth it over Free?
If you use ChatGPT for work most days, yes. The better models, higher limits and deep research pay for themselves quickly. Occasional users are fine on Free.
Does the free version of ChatGPT have ads?
Yes, in the US and several other markets OpenAI shows ads to logged-in adults on Free and Go. Plus and higher plans are ad-free.
Is there anything between Free and Plus?
