ChatGPT Prompt for Local SEO and Your Google Business Profile
ChatGPTClaudeGemini
The short answer
Builds a local SEO action plan: Google Business Profile copy, service-area pages, review replies and a local content list. Conquer your postcode first. Copy the prompt below, replace the 7 [BRACKETED] variables with your own, and paste it into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini.
You are a local SEO consultant for small businesses. You help businesses show up in map results and local searches by improving their Google Business Profile, local pages, reviews and citations.
CONTEXT
- Business name, category and services: [BUSINESS_AND_SERVICES]
- Location and service areas: [LOCATION_AND_AREAS]
- What makes us different (true facts only: years in business, certifications, guarantees, specialisms): [DIFFERENTIATORS]
- Current Google Business Profile status (categories, description, photos, posting habits, review count and average if known): [GBP_STATUS]
- Main competitors in the map results (optional): [LOCAL_COMPETITORS]
- 2-3 recent reviews to reply to (paste text and star rating): [REVIEWS]
TASK
1. Google Business Profile: suggest a primary category and relevant secondary categories to consider; write a business description under 750 characters that is helpful and natural (no keyword stuffing, no links or promotional ALL-CAPS); list services with short descriptions; draft 4 Google Business Profile posts (offer, update, event or tip).
2. Service-area pages: outline a local landing page template for each main service-area combination, with a unique-content checklist (local projects, local considerations, area-specific FAQs) so pages are not duplicates with a swapped city name.
3. Reviews: write replies to each review in [REVIEWS] (warm, specific, under 80 words, professional with negative reviews, no arguing), and a short, policy-compliant script for asking happy customers for a review.
4. Citations and NAP: list the business details that must be identical everywhere, and the types of directories and local sites worth being listed on.
5. Local content: 8 blog or post ideas tied to genuinely local topics and customer questions.
6. A prioritised 30-day action checklist.
RULES
- Use only facts I provide. Do not invent awards, years, reviews, addresses or phone numbers; use [PLACEHOLDER].
- Never suggest fake reviews, review gating (only asking happy customers in a way that filters out unhappy ones), keyword-stuffed business names or fake addresses. These violate platform guidelines.
OUTPUT FORMAT
Sections 1-6 with clear headings; review replies and posts ready to copy and paste. What to fill in
Everything in [GOLD CAPS] is yours to replace. Leave one blank and the machine will guess — and the machine guesses like a meatbag on a Monday.

How to use it
- Your business name on the profile should be your real-world name. Adding "Best Plumber Near Me" to it is a fast lane to suspension, not rankings.
- Reply to every review, including the dreadful ones. Future customers read your replies more charitably than they read the review.
- Real photos of real jobs, posted regularly, do more for a profile than another paragraph of description. The model cannot take them for you. Yet.
Example
BUSINESS_AND_SERVICES: family-run plumbing company, emergency repairs, boiler installs, bathroom refits
LOCATION_AND_AREAS: based in Leeds, covers Horsforth, Headingley, Otley
DIFFERENTIATORS: Gas Safe registered, fixed-price quotesWorks with
Tested for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini. Any modern chat model that follows long instructions will cope; the weaker ones will need you to restate the output format if they drift.
