Claude vs Cursor
These solve different problems: Claude is a general AI assistant (with Claude Code included on paid plans), while Cursor is an AI code editor. If you code daily and want AI inside your editor, pick Cursor; if you want one subscription for writing plus an agentic coding tool, pick Claude Pro. Many developers use both.

Claude
The best writer of the big assistants, and the one most likely to tell you your plan has a hole in it. That is a feature. Pro includes Claude Code, so coders get two tools for one price.
Strengths
- Most natural prose of the major assistants
- Strong at careful reasoning and following detailed instructions
- Paid plans include Claude Code
Weaknesses
- Usage limits can bite on heavy days, even on Pro
- Smaller plugin and image-generation ecosystem than ChatGPT
Cursor
The editor that made "AI IDE" a category, and still the one to beat for developers who want to stay in the driver's seat. Familiar VS Code feel, but with a co-pilot that can take the wheel.
Strengths
- Feels like VS Code, so the switch is easy
- Excellent autocomplete
- Free Hobby plan to try it
Weaknesses
- Heavy agent use burns through included usage
- Pricing structure has changed several times
Questions the Humans Keep Asking
Can I use Claude inside Cursor?
Cursor lets you choose among frontier models, which has typically included Claude models. You can also run Claude Code in Cursor's terminal.
Is Claude or Cursor better for coding?
Cursor is better for hands-on editing with autocomplete; Claude Code (included with Claude paid plans) is stronger at delegated multi-file tasks.
Do I need both?
Not necessarily. If you only code, Cursor alone may be enough; if you also write a lot, Claude Pro covers both writing and coding.
